After the rebellion of Bishop Peláez, the city of Compostela finds itself in misery: there is hardly any grain in the city, the works on the Cathedral have stopped, and the stonemasons are leaving... The situation is unsustainable; Gonzalo must assert himself or the situation will end in tragedy.
And when misery is rampant, someone always benefits. And in Compostela, this someone has a name: Tomás.
The hunger to which Muslim slaves are subjected causes a child to steal bread in the market. In his flight, one of the merchants of Compostela ends up dead. Tomás, to avoid being accused of being the cause of the city's problems, since he has a large amount of grain, offers a generous reward for the head of the young Moor.
But it is not the only problem for Gonzalo. The Saracen slaves demand justice for Ahmed or, what amounts to the same thing, that Gonzalo judge his brother Pedro for murder. Gonzalo protects his brother by sending him to guard the entrance gate of the city, not knowing that he is facilitating the plan of the Almoravids to destroy Compostela. The battle for the future of Compostela is served.
Tras la rebelión del obispo Peláez la ciudad de Compostela se encuentra en la miseria: no hay apenas grano en la ciudad, las obras de la Catedral se han detenido, los canteros se marchan... La situación es insostenible; Gonzalo debe hacerse valer o la situación acabará en tragedia.
Y cuando la miseria campa a sus anchas, alguien siempre saca beneficio. Y en Compostela, este alguien tiene nombre: Tomás.
El hambre al que se ven sometidos los esclavos musulmanes provoca que un niño robe pan en el mercado. En su huida uno de los mercaderes de Compostela acaba muerto. Tomás, para evitar que le acusen a él de ser el causante de los problemas de la ciudad, pues posee gran cantidad de grano, ofrece una generosa recompensa por la cabeza del joven moro.
Pero no es el único problema para Gonzalo. Los esclavos sarracenos reclaman justicia para Ahmed o, lo que es lo mismo, que Gonzalo juzgue a su hermano Pedro por asesinato. Gonzalo protege a su hermano enviándolo a custodiar la puerta de entrada de la ciudad, sin saber que está facilitando el plan de los almorávides para arrasar Compostela. La batalla por el futuro de Compostela está servida.
